Newalta Corporations, previously Mohawk Lubricants Ltd. was established in 1979. The corporation is involved in waste recyling, alternate fuels marketing, and oil re-refining.
Mohawk Lubricants primary business is oil re-refining and lubricants blending. It processes approximately 33 million L of waste oil annually. The Mohawk plant in North Vancouver was the first in the world to apply distillation/hydrotreating technology to the processing of waste oil. The plant produces 20 million L of high quality base oils annually. The firm's secondary business is the licensing of its proprietary technology and consulting services related to oil recycling feasibility studies, technology for collection, storing and testing of waste oils, and lubricating oil blending to specification products.

Re-refining Process
Mohawk Lubricants uses the distillation/hydrotreating re-refining process to recover high-quality base oils from used motor and hydraulic oil. A fleet of specially-designed trucks collects used lubricant and transports it to a refinery located in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Before processing, a sample from each compartment of the collection truck is analyzed in Mohawk's laboratory to ensure that the oil contains no hazardous contaminants.
The re-refining process involves distillation to segregate water, fuel oil, and asphalt flux (spent additive and impurities) from the base oil which is hydrotreated to produce high-quality neutral base oil. A portion of the neutral base oil is sold to other oil companies and lubricant blenders, while the rest is blended on site to produce a full range of lubricant products meeting the highest API, SAE, and industrial standards. Blended products are sold under the brand names 'Mohawk', 'Canadian Pride', and 'Spartan'.
Wastewater is treated on-site to meet strict municipal standards. Fuel derived from the distillation is partially used for on-site energy requirements and the balance sold as heating fuel. The asphalt flux is sold to the asphalt industry for use in roofing materials. There are no waste streams generated and no landfill products.
