Tantalum Concentrates
Tantalum concentrates, 38% Ta2O5
High quality capacitors is the major single use for tantalum,
accounting for 70% of the total consumption of tantalum in Japan,
50% of the total in the U.S.A., and 25% in Europe. Tantalum
carbide is used for the production of hardmetal alloys for cutting
tools. Other tantalum alloys are important constituents of aero
engines, and for acid resistant pipes and tanks used in the
chemical industry. Tantalum is also used in the medical industry.
Tantalum ``pins`` are used in such areas as hip-joint
replacements, as it is the only metal not rejected by body fluids.
